STEP 3: DATA COLLECTION, SELECTION, AND PREPARATION

Who owns the data?

Data ownership is a key aspect in the development of AI/ML programs. This section provides resources to reflect on different data ownership models, from open-source to privately-owned data. In deciding ownership models, it is important to consider ethical risks and liabilities, both regarding who owns the data (e.g. local governments) and who is included in the data (e.g. vulnerable populations). Considering data governance in light of local and national regulations is also key, as well as addressing issues of privacy, access, rights and duties.
