Innovating to Address Gender-Based Violence

SEPTEMBER 2020

Progress has been slow toward SDG 5: Achieving Gender Equality and Empowering of All Women and Girls, particularly with regard to addressing one of the most widespread human rights violations – gender-based violence (GBV).

Building on their previous collaboration and the co-creation of the IDIA Insight Guide: Towards Bridging Gender Equality & Innovation, the various members of IDIA’s Gender & Innovation Working Group embarked on a process to identify innovative approaches, partners and solutions to prevent and respond to GBV.

This paper presents a collection of the 60+ innovative practices identified through this process. These include policy and technical innovations, behavioural change initiatives, innovative partnerships and creative financing mechanisms, among many others. We hope that this inspirational collection catalyses greater use of these innovations in delivering transformative, sustainable change and a safer world for all those suffering and at risk of GBV.
